The question is not how to stop ageing. It is how to age with function, clarity, and energy — decade after decade.
Healthy aging is a broad medical topic. Selected markers may provide context about risk, hormones, energy, and nutrition, but they are only one part of the health picture.
Markers to understand
Longevity markers, explained
These tests are clues, not predictions. Their relevance depends on age, history, symptoms, family risk, and the question being asked.
Genetic screening
May indicate: inherited risk
Hereditary cardiovascular and cancer risk (including BRCA), pharmacogenomics (how you metabolise medications), and metabolic predispositions — diabetes, lipid disorders.
Mitochondrial function
May indicate: cellular energy production
Mitochondrial markers may be considered when investigating fatigue, reduced exercise capacity, or related symptoms.
Telomere length
May indicate: biological vs chronological age
Telomeres shorten with each cell division. Telomere length is one marker studied in ageing research and should be interpreted alongside age, medical history, and other clinical findings.
Hormonal profiling
May indicate: endocrine balance
Sex hormones (oestrogen, testosterone, DHEA), thyroid, cortisol, and growth hormone markers change with age and may be relevant to the assessment of energy, mood, body composition, and cognitive symptoms where clinically appropriate.
Cardiovascular risk panel
May indicate: arterial & metabolic health
Advanced lipids, hs-CRP, homocysteine, and HbA1c may add context to cardiovascular and metabolic risk assessment.
Cognitive & energy markers
May indicate: brain health risk factors
B12, folate, homocysteine, vitamin D, ferritin — micronutrients with established links to cognitive function and energy production that accumulate as silent deficiencies.
On the evidence
A genetic risk score is not a diagnosis. A telomere length is not a sentence. These tests add information — they do not replace clinical judgment.
What the tests tell you
Where you sit relative to population averages. Results may provide additional information that can be interpreted alongside medical history, family history, symptoms, and other clinical findings.
What they don't tell you
Longevity testing is an evolving field. Results have limitations and should be interpreted in clinical context. No test predicts the future.

What patients usually ask
Most patients are in their 40s to 60s — proactive about health and wanting a baseline before symptoms develop. There is no fixed age. If you are concerned about your energy, cognition, or family history, it is worth a conversation.
Standard health screening usually focuses on established disease risk. Healthy aging assessment may include broader markers, but those markers have limitations and do not replace standard medical care.
Most comprehensive health insurance policies in Hong Kong do not cover elective genetic or longevity testing. Standard blood panels may have different coverage. Please check with your insurer directly.
