Our Clinical Approach
General principles for prescribing, investigation, and patient care.
The following principles describe our general approach to prescribing, investigation, and patient care during consultations.
Antibiotics are prescribed for conditions where they are clinically indicated, including not usually for most viral upper respiratory infections. When antibiotics are indicated, an appropriate agent, dose, and duration are selected according to clinical assessment and current guidelines. Antibiotics are prescribed according to clinical assessment and current guidelines rather than patient preference alone.
Steroid treatments — topical and systemic — are used when they are the clinically appropriate choice, at the right potency, for the shortest effective duration. We explain the rationale and any precautions clearly before prescribing.
Before prescribing, we check for interactions with existing medications, allergies, pregnancy, and relevant medical history. Repeat prescriptions are not automatic renewals — they include a regular clinical review to confirm the prescription is still appropriate.
Investigations are selected according to clinical assessment, current evidence, and the information required for ongoing management. We explain what the test is for and what its limitations are.
The doctor reviews the presenting concern, relevant history, and examination findings, then advises on appropriate options and next steps.
Patient records are kept securely. Information is not shared with third parties except where clinically necessary and with the patient's consent, or as required by Hong Kong law. Patients can request access to their own records.
If a condition is outside the scope of general practice, or would benefit from targeted specialist care, we explain this and arrange referral where clinically appropriate. We coordinate with the receiving provider and give patients the information they need to navigate the next step.
General practice, skin health, or holistic health — all consultations follow the same standards.
